For many people, choosing a therapist, and making that first phone call, is a daunting process. My goal is to make the first steps of entering therapy as comfortable and easy as possible.
Choosing a therapist is an important, and personal, decision.
I believe it is important to take a collaborative approach to therapy and work together on creating goals and finding solutions. Together, we identify strengths and find ways to use those strengths to their maximum potential in order overcome difficulties.
We also identify patterns of thinking and doing things that may be unhelpful and work to change them. Often, we will create tasks and challenges to work on in between sessions so that progress continues outside of the therapy room.
My Experience
I’ve been practicing for over a decade and have practiced and trained in a variety of settings including: an elementary school, a college counseling center, a child and adolescent in-patient unit, an eating-disorder in-patient unit, and community mental-health centers.
Before entering graduate school, I was a preschool teacher. I continue to love working with small children. My knowledge of child development is continually enhanced as I parent my own three children.
My Education
My undergraduate degree is from Vassar College (1998) in Poughkeepsie, NY where I studied Psychology and Russian Language.
I received my Master’s degree and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.) from the Institute of Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University (2004) with concentrations in Family Therapy and Health Psychology. My training prepared me to work with clients using both psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapy techniques. My doctoral dissertation focused on psychotherapy with individuals who are experiencing infertility.
I am licensed as a psychologist by the Pennsylvania State Board of Psychology (License #PS016038) and am a Pennsylvania Psychological Association Fellow. I am also licensed by the Minnesota State Board of Psychology (License #LP7056).
